Two motorists are suing Detroit claiming that the city is violating the constitution by collecting parking fines and late fees.
The lawsuit seeks to block the city from issuing tickets and collecting fines and fees that exceed authorized amounts, and accuses Detroit of failing to provide a $10 early payment discount.
Detroit installed a new on-street parking system in 2015, and raised the fees and fines.
A number of lawsuits have been filed in the past against parking tickets. They’ve all failed.
