Deportation Day For Migrant Holed Up In Church

An Albanian immigrant from Southgate is scheduled to be deported today.

He has been staying at a Detroit church which has declared itself a sanctuary for those seeking refuge.

48 year old Ded Rranxburgaj had crossed into the U-s from Canada 17 years ago on a visitors visa.

He had been trying to gain legal status and previously allowed to stay on a humanitarian designation because his wife has MS.

That designation was ended in October and he was ordered to be deported as of today.

He sought refuge in the Central Methodist Church last week.

Federal agents say he is currently considered a fugitive.

They did not comment on whether they would attempt to remove him from the church.
