Selfridge Could Still Get Jets

The Selfridge Air National Guard Base could still be in the running as a site for locating a squadron of F-35 fighter jets.
The military is moving ahead with an environmental study on the issue even though the the U-S Air Force didn’t pick the Harrison Township base to host one of the next two
F-35 squadrons.

The Pentagon announced earlier this month that it will prepare an environmental analysis of all 5 bases that competed to be the 2nd and 3rd Air National Guard locations for storing,
maintaining and training on the fighter plane.

The Air Force had announced plans in December to convert two F-16 units in Alabama and Wisconsin to each host 20 of the aircraft pending completion of an environmental study.

A public hearing has been scheduled on the Selfridge environmental study at 5 pm next Wednesday at the Wheeler Community Center in Clinton Township.
