What Will Replace JLA?

Detroit plans to use the site of Joe Louis Arena to give greater public access to the riverfront, like it has in the area to the east of JLA. Plans call for the arena to be torn down later this year, according to the Detroit News. A study gives four different options on how to use the site, including pedestrian paths to the riverfront and the rest of downtown. The city wants to demolish the freeway ramp to the arena and Jefferson Avenue; the circular parking ramp on Congress between 2nd and 3rd streets; and the pedestrian tubes. JLA is scheduled to be demolished later this year.
