Deer Dying In Long Winter

Wildlife biologists are concerned about the prolonged winter weather and the impact it will have on deer in the U-P.

Officials for the State Department of Natural Resources note that deer fitted with radio collars for DNR studies have suffered a 13.5 percent mortality rate so far this winter.

Some parts of the peninsula still have two feet of snow on the ground.

This creates a shortage of green vegetation for deer to eat.
