Cancer Faker Heads To Court

A Brighton woman is due in court today on charges she faked having cancer in order to raise money through a Go-Fund-Me campaign.

Prosecutors say 33 year old Candace Streng raised over 30-thousand dollars from her false claim for medical help.

Streng had claimed last fall that she had been fighting stage four breast cancer for three years and that her treatments were costing her 6-thousand dollars a month.

Almost 400 people responded to her request for donations before the scheme was uncovered and the Go-Fund-Me site deactivated.

Go-Fund-Me later released a statement in which it explained that donors are protected from cases of misuse and that they will get their money back.

The charges against Streng could send her to prison for up to 15 years.
