On Medicaid? You May Have To Get A Job

A State Senate-passed bill that would require many Medicaid recipients to work at least 29 hours a week has now moved on to the House.
Michigan has about 2.4 million people who get health care coverage through Medicaid.

IN 2013, the legislature passed a law to expand coverage to low-income citizens.

Some 680-thousand signed up.

The bill passed in the senate last week would require the able-bodied adults in this program to work 29 hours a week or be enrolled in a job training or education program.

Business leaders support the bill saying it would help fill thousands of vacant jobs in the state.

Critics say the measure is an insult to the working poor who are lucky if they can find a job that will give them a 29 hour work week.
