Tow Driver Charged With Stealing Victim’s Credit Card

A tow truck driver is due in court today on charges that he stole a bank card from a woman who was killed following an auto accident in Romulus.
Prosecutors say 31 year old Joel Leys of Bellville arrived at the scene of a crash in May on the northbound I-275 and Huron River Drive and stole the bank card of the Erie, Pennsylvania woman involved in the crash.

Family members later contacted Michigan State Police after noticing that money had subsequently been drained from her account for expenses such as pizza, car payments and tickets to Michigan International Speedway.

A state police investigation concluded that Leys had taken the woman’s bank card from her purse at the time of the accident

He’s due in court today for a preliminary exam.
