Transit Tax Fight Goes To Lansing

Testimony is expected to resume today before the Michigan House Tax Committee on a proposal that would allow communities to opt out of any millage request that the Regional Transit Authority might put on the ballot.

Supporters of the proposal say they are communities that simply would not benefit from a regional transit plan and that they shouldn’t be forced to pay for it..

Critics say the lack of a truly regional transit system is holding back growth in southeast Michigan.
