DPD Cops Face Assault Charges

A preliminary exam has been scheduled for today for two Detroit police officers charged with assaulting a customer at a restaurant.

The two officers were off-duty at the time … moonlighting as security guards during the Saint Patrick’s day paade.

Prosecutors say 48 year old Lt. Timothy Leach was evicting 42 year old Ryan Karpovich of Washington Township from the restaurant and pushed him.

Karpovich fell to the floor and suffered severe head injuries.

Investigators say the other officer, 53 year old Frederick Person then lied to police about what had happened.

Detroit Police Chief James Craig said the two officers did not have prior approval to work as private security guards and that they also failed to report the use of force in the incident.
