Wayco Jail Plan Finalized

Wayne County officials have given final approval of the agreement to build a new jail and a criminal justice center.

The Wayne County Board of Commissioners voted 14 to 1 to approve the trade of the site of an unfinished county jail for the deal to have Rock Ventures build a new jail and courthouse complex along I-75 at East Warren, in exchange for getting the site of the unfinished jail on Gratiot.
It’s a three-way trade.
Wayne County acquires Detroit D-DOT property where the new complex will be built, in exchange for the old jail property. And in exchange for that site, Detroit gets an old American Motors property on Plymouth Road, which is owned by a public land Bank.

Developments are planned for the former jail site, and the city believes the old American Motors headquarters will be redeveloped.
The county pays Rock Ventures 380-million for unpaid costs and for any overruns. the new jail and court complex is expected to be completed by 20-22.
