Ann Arbor Building Plans Cause Controversy

A developer has high hopes for a library parking lot in Ann Arbor.  The planned hi-rise is raising questions about the impact on the community.

Core Spaces of Chicago is in line to purchase the library lot from the city of Ann Arbor for 10-million dollars. The city council has approved the sale.
Now, Core Spaces wants to build what it calls Collective on the 5th… a 17 story hotel and apartment complex, along with a plaza.
Organized opposition already has placed a question on the ballot in November aimed at keeping the library lot publicly owned.

The group tells the city it has to hold off on finalizing the sale, which would block the hi-rise.
The developer still has to get planning commission and city council approval for the big building.
Core Spaces will spell out it’s plans at a public forum June 20th and will take questions and comments from residents.
