United Auto Workers to Elect New Leaders

Over 3-thousand UAW members are in Detroit this week to pick a new slate of leaders.

Heading that slate to be elected the union’s new president is 60 year old Gary Jones.

He is from Missouri and currently director of the union’s 17-state Region-5 which includes Missouri, Texas, Louisiana and the west coast.

He would succeed Dennis Williams when he retires.

The meeting comes, however amid a mixed bag of news for the union.

Record profits for automaker meant near-record profit-sharing checks for workers.

But the meeting also comes at a time that a federal probe is underway involving misuse of millions of dollars in training center funds
