Governor confirms financial emergency in Wayne County

Wayne County LogoWayne County is in a financial emergency, that word coming from Governor Rick Snyder. The Governor confirmed the findings of a state review team. Now, the Wayne County Commission has seven days to choose one of four options for dealing with it: entering into a consent agreement with the state, having an emergency manager, mediation or bankruptcy.

Snyder’s decision comes about a month after County Executive Warren Evans requested that the state review the county’s finances. In a written statement Evans said that it’s his opinion that a consent agreement is the best option moving forward, one that would give the county the tools to resolve the 52 million dollars in structural deficit.
