New Bridge Event Today

Michigan and Canadian officials will hold a ceremonial groundbreaking on the U-S side of the construction site of a new bridge over the Detroit River.
Officials from Michigan and Canada will be in the Delray section of southwest Detroit  to turn the first shovels of dirt for the Gordie Howe International Bridge project.

Organizers say it is a sign that work on the bridge is going forward.

It’s construction has long been opposed by the Matty Maroun family.

They own the 89 year old Ambassador Bridge.

The Michigan Department of Transportation has been busy buying all of the land it needs to make way for a port of entry, toll and inspection area in Delray.

Similar work is underway in Windsor and a ground breaking ceremony will take place there in the fall.
