State Releases Pontiac Schools Oversight

The Pontiac School District has been released from state oversight five years after a huge deficit forced the state to declare a financial emergency.

The district entered into a consent agreement with the state 5 years ago when the deficit reached more than 50-million dollars. Bills weren’t getting paid. Teachers and other employees have taken pay cuts, and the debts are down to a fraction of what they were. Pontiac now has a balanced budget.
