The trial of a former Michigan State Police Trooper charged with causing the death of a 15 year old Detroit boy is scheduled to start today.
Mark Bessner has been charged with 2nd degree murder in the death of Damon Grimes.
Grimes had been driving his ATV in the street on Detroit’s east side in August of last year.
State police officials say Grimes did not obey an order to stop.
Bessner, in violation of state police policy, used his taser on him.
Grimes lost control of his ATV and crashed into a parked flatbed truck.
He died from his head injuries.
If convicted of the charge against him, Bessner could be sent to prison for life.
