Stabbed, Beaten, But She Won’t Testify

Macomb County Prosecutors have a video of a Washington Township man beating and stabbing his girlfriend over a 40-minute period as she cowers on the floor.

35 year old bodybuilder Paul Bashi is due in court today on charges of torture and assault with intent to commit murder.

The woman was stabbed 24 times and punched and kicked more than 100 times.

She said the beating was her fault and she didn’t want to press charges.
In many cases the charges are dropped when the victim refuses to testify.

But prosecutors say they don’t need her testimony in this case because they have the video.

While a woman trying to protect her boyfriend is baffling to many, officials for abuse shelters say it’s tragic scenario that they have seen many times.

They explain they are often dealing with women with low self-esteem who feel they deserve to be beaten, or that they believe their boyfriends will change, or, on the other side of the coin,
that they could be killed if they testify against him.
