Polluted Steel Plant To Be Redeveloped

The old McLouth steel plant in Trenton and another property in Riverview will become a federal Superfund site, and in combination with millions of dollars in investments by Crown Enterprises, owned by the Maroun family, could be redeveloped.

The property is changing hands, from the Wayne County Land Bank, to the company, which must now demolish dozens of buildings, including the foundry.

It will also have to remove dangerous waste, under the EPA agreement.

McLouth Steel went bankrupt in the 1990’s.

The county hopes it could become a major transportation hub. That would take years. But the county says it’s going in the right direction.
