Sanctuary Fight Goes Before Judge

A man who has been holed up in a church in Detroit gets a hearing today in federal court.

Ded Rranxburgajs has been staying at the Central United Methodist church since January.

He sought sanctuary after he was ordered to report to an Immigration and Customs office for deportation.

He came to the U-S with his wife 17 years ago and was granted temporary humanitarian status after she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis more than a decade ago.

Federal agents say he was declared a fugitive after he failed to report to the immigration office as ordered.

Today’s court hearing is on the government’s request to dismiss the man’s petition to stop his deportation.
