A former manager of Colony Arms Apartments on Detroit’s east side is facing up to 18 months in prison for bribery.
Federal prosecutors say Nekicha Redmond pocketed bribes ranging from $150 to $500 and admitted to taking money from the poor who were trying to move up on the waiting list for a public housing unit.
Prosecutors say Redmond even admitted to taking a bribe from a homeless woman with two young children.
Authorities say the crimes occurred in 2013 and took a year -long investigation to unravel the scheme at
the Jefferson Avenue apartment complex which officials say has been plagued by drugs and violence.
Prosecutors say Redmond pulled off the scheme with the help of an associate – Lucresha Shank.
Shank pleaded guilty to her role and has cooperated with the government.
She will be sentenced in December.
Her accomplice Redmond is scheduled to be sentenced on March 28th.
