Auto Issues Before Congress

Congress is returning to work today facing pressure from car-makers on two important measures in this lame duck session.

One would allow automakers to sell thousands of self-driving cars … the other to extend tax credits for electric vehicles.

One bill that has been in the Senate bill for a year would allow the sale more than 80-thousand self-driving cars annually.

The Republican-led House passed a similar measure with little problems last year.

On the other issue, General Motors, Nissan and Tesla have joined forces with environmental groups to form a new coalition that is pushing for the removal of a cap on a federal tax credit that provides up to 75-hundred dollars to a buyer of an electric car.
