A man accused in the hit-and-run death of a Wayne County Sheriffs Department sergeant is scheduled to go on trial today.
47 year old Desmond Robinson has been charged in the death of 55 year old Sgt. Lee Smith.
Smith was hit and killed in mid August while jogging on Hines drive in Westland.
Prosecutors say Robinson hit Lee with his SUV and dragged him for some 50 to 60 yards before fleeing the scene.
The charge against him is a 15 year felony.
At the time of his death, Smith was just a month and a half away from retirement.
