An 18 year veteran of the Detroit Police Department is due in court today for a preliminary exam on charges of assault and battery and misconduct in office.
Corporal Dewayne Jones had answered a call just after 7 in the morning on August 1st of trouble at Detroit Receiving Hospital.
When he arrived, he found a naked 29 year old female at the front desk who was spitting and shouting profanities at the staff and who had bitten another officer.
Prosecutors said Jones punched her in the face in trying to restrain her and this constituted use of unnecessary force and thus, misconduct in office.
The charge is a felony with a 5 year maximum sentence.
