Police, DNR Deal With Snowmobile Deaths

Snowmobiling is fun— and it’s dangerous.
POLICE REPORT THERE WERE FIVE SNOW MOBILE DEATHS IN MICHIGAN ON FRIDAY. TWO IN GOGEBIC COUNTY, AND ONE EACH IN LUCE, ALGER AND KALKASKA
So far this winter, six snowmobilers have died in the Upper Peninsula and three in Lower Peninsula, according to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. That compares to 15 statewide for the entire PREVIOUS WINTER.
DNR OFFICERS HAVE BEEFED UP PATROLS IN THE UP, ISSUING WARNINGS AND WRITING TICKETS TO THOSE WHO DON’T FOLLOW SAFETY RULES.
We have determined that snowmobiling is, perhaps, the most dangerous activity involving a moving vehicle.
