Charges Changed In Local Jail Death

Three people are scheduled to be arraigned today in the death of an inmate at the Westland Jail, but not on the charges that had been sought originally by the prosecutor.

Prosecutors had initially charged Westland police Sergeant Ronald Buckley and paramedics Matt Dicosolo and Leah Maynard with manslaughter in the death of prisoner William Marshall.

They said the three had failed to provide proper medial treatment for Marshall, who appeared to be convulsing.

However, at their preliminary exam in December, the judge dismissed the manslaughter charges, saying the prosecutors office had failed to present sufficient evidence to show that  the defendants actions were the cause of Marshall’s death.

He did bind them over for trial on charges of misconduct in office.
