Murder Of Transgender Woman In Court

A preliminary exam has been scheduled for today for a Sterling Heights man charged in the shooting death of a transgender woman in Detroit.

46 year old Albert Weathers has been charged with the murder of 36 year old Kelly Stough.

Her body was found in the early morning hours of December 7th near McNichols and Brush.

Prosecutors say they are viewing it as a hate crime.

Family members say the victim was an upbeat person who grew up as Trishtan Stough, graduated from Mackensie High School and later attended college in South Dakota on a football scholarship.

However, she decided not to pursue the offer and eventually enrolled in the International Academy of Design in Chicago, where she started identifying as a female.
