Autorama Stunt Canceled; Council Looks At It Again

A stunt jump to kick off Detroit Autorama has been canceled.

Detroit City Council canceled the permit for the event because the last time it happened, the car involved was a replica of The General Lee, which has a Confederate flag painted on the roof.

Organizers promised a Confederate flag would not be part of the stunt again.
This year’s stunt jump would have involved a replica of the Firebird Trans Am used in the “Smokey and the Bandit” movies, which has the old Georgia State flag on the front license plate – which included the Confederate battle flag.

Organizers say they did not plan to use the offensive plate.

Detroit council was to discuss it again today.
