The long-awaited premier date for the late Aretha Franklin’s ‘Amazing Grace’ documentary will take place tonight at the DIA’s Detroit Film Theatre.
It’s a private, black-tie event.
The nationwide release for the gospel film is April 19th.
‘Amazing Grace was filmed in 1972 at the New Temple Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles.
The record went become the best-selling gospel album in history, a title it still holds.
The film footage of the event had been put on hold for decades because of ownership issues that were only settled after her death last August..
Tonight’s premier comes on what would have been Franklin’s 77th birthday.
