Big Mac Paint Job Time

Travelers planning on using the Mackinac bridge should prepare for some possible delays.

Repainting of the bridge’s south tower is expected to start this week and this will result in periodic closing of its northbound and southbound lanes.

Work isn’t expected to be completed until December 31st of next year.

The work is being done by the Livonia-based Seaway painting.

The company previously repainted the north tower in 2017 and 2018.

In an effort to keep traffic jams at a minimum, closures on the northbound lanes will be lifted on Fridays and on the southbound lanes on Sundays during peak traffic weekends and also during other heavy traffic periods such as holidays.
