More Rain Coming This Way

Metro Detroit is under a Flood Watch later today through Friday morning. Rains of 3” or more has the ground saturated, and there’s another 1” or more of rain possible later today and tonight.

The weekend will be the dryer and mild.

In Dearborn Heights, ground zero of flooding, the water has gone down, but the neighborhood is still under water.

Basement flooding is the most common problem during heavy rains.
Chuck Breidenstein, of ‘the Inside Outside Guys’ on WJR, says most people can do it yourself when it comes to pumping out the water, by renting a pump and hose. Residents slog around the standing water. But the electricity must be off, he says.

Breidenstein says if the dry out process is slow and gradual you have a better chance of salvaging things in the basement.

The threat of more heavy rain and a flood watch for later today has M-DOT wondering when they will be able to re-open the Southfield Fwy, M-39 at Outer Drive in Allen Park.  Diane Cross of the hiway department says M-DOT has brought more pumps along freeway station houses to get rid of standing water.

Millions of gallons of partially treated sewage has been released and going into Lake St. Clair.

When flooding overflows the system, they can dump partially treated sewer water downstream or allow it to go into basements and residential streets.
