Court Case Against Ex-Senator Drags On

Former state Senator Virgil Smith is due in court today for an evidence motion hearing.

Smith is facing trial on charges of shooting up his ex-wife’s car.
It was May of 2015.

It came following an argument after she came to his east side home and found another woman there. They were in the bedroom.

Smith originally pled guilty in the case, but the more serious charges were dropped when he agreed to resign his state senate seat.

He later withdrew that plea in a dispute over whether he could again run for public office.

The prosecutor then reinstated the original charges. Smith has talked about running again for the office.
