Flint Students Start School Early

Flint Community School officials are set to institute a plan that they say will benefit students and teachers.

But it could be a cultural shock for students.

The district is moving to extend its school calendar in an effort to reduce what it calls brain drain on students during long summer breaks.

The so-called year-round calendar will include the required 180 days of instruction, but days off will be spread more evenly throughout the school year.

There will be six breaks of four to ten days during the year as to opposed to the current 3 month break in the summer.

As a result, Fling students will be starting school in just a couple of weeks, on Wednesday, August 7th with classes scheduled to end on June 18.

Flint school officials say the new calendar was in use at one of its elementary schools for the past three years and was met with positive results.
