Anti-Vaping Law In Effect In Michigan

Flavored e-cigarettes are banned in Michigan starting today.
Gov. Whitmer imposed emergency rules after the state’s chief medical executive, Dr. Joneigh Khaldun, declared that youth vaping was a public health emergency.
The ban will last for 6 months, according to the governor’s office. After that the ban can be extended for 6 months.
The ban does not affect tobacco-flavored e-cigarettes. They are still legal.
The governor also ordered the Michigan Department of Transportation to enforce an existing law that bans the advertising of vapor products on billboards

The new law is aimed at trying to to reduce vaping among teenagers.
Michigan health officials say they know of at least 6 cases of breathing illnesses that they think are caused by vaping.

The FDA began to crack down on vaping tobacco products in August. It issued warning letters to four companies for selling e-liquids and hookah tobacco without legal authorization.
