Service For Rock And Roll Pioneer Jack Scott

Hit records like “What In The World’s Come Over You”  allowed Jack Scott to drive his red Cadillac Eldorado around his home town of Hazel Park.

A memorial service is being  held today for Jack Scott, the first rock and roll star from the Detroit area. Scott had a string of number one hits starting in the late 50’s, appeared on ‘American Bandstand’ and other network shows, and challenged Elvis for number one in record sales. But he chose to stay here and raise a family, and didn’t like life on the road. He made live appearances at oldies events, in Las Vegas, and at local fundraisers. He died last week. Jack Scott… one of the last of the original rockabillies… was 83.
