Coronavirus Compared To Flu

The coronavirus seems to be more deadly than the flu. But is it really?

Seasonal flu strains kill about 0.1 percent of people who get it.
Early estimates of the coronavirus death rate from Wuhan, China, have been around 2 percent. But a new report in The New England Journal of Medicine, finds a rate of 1.4 percent.

The coronavirus death rate may be even lower.

The actual death rate could turn out to be similar to that of a severe seasonal flu, below 1 percent, according to the CDC.
As of late February there were at least 32 million cases of flu in the United States, 310,000 hospitalizations and 18,000 flu deaths, according to the C.D.C.

After viral infections, people generally develop antibodies in their blood that will fight off the virus.

With other coronaviruses immunity can fade away. One example is the common cold. The common cold is caused by a corona virus.
