Guv Extends Order, GOP Leaders Oppose It

Republicans who lead the Michigan legislature are speaking out against Gov. Whitmer’s latest stay at home order.
Michigan will stay under a statewide stay-at-home order until April 30. Gov. Whitmer extended her order with some restrictions. Starting Saturday, people are banned from traveling to another home in the state until the order expires. Stores are required to limit the number of customers. Garden centers, flooring, furniture, and paint are closed. Golf courses stay closed.
State Senate Republican leader Mike Shirkey says the governor’s order is uncalled for. Shirkey says parts of the economy can easily be reopened safely. He has set up two social media posts for Michigan residents to voice their displeasure.
117 more people have died in Michigan from corona virus, bringing the total to 1-thousand 76. 11-hundred 58 new cases were reported. the rate of new cases is going down.
Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties remain the three hardest-hit areas in Michigan with 79.6 percent of the total confirmed cases and about 85.0 percent of the state’s deaths from the virus. The 3 Southeast Michigan counties are home to 39 percent of the state’s residents.
Wayne County went past  10,000 confirmed cases on Thursday.
In Detroit alone, there are 5,824 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 251 deaths.
Paul Novicki of River Rouge, and E-M-T technician, died of corona virus.
House Speaker Lee Chatfield opposes the extension of the stay-at-home order. Chatfield said that Whitmer should be looking at which jobs and activities can be done safely rather than issuing a blanket stay-at-home order. Chatfield says we deserve better.

Federal funding is coming for needy children who normally get meals at school. 190-dollars per student per month will be loaded on bridge cards.
Pfizer has joined forces with the German company Bio-N-Tech, aiming to have a COVID-19 vaccine by the end of the year, greatly accelerating the normal timeline for a vaccine. Pfizer says they have had positive pre-clinic results.
