Youngest Victim Dies; Detroit Testing Expands

Michigan now has 23-hundred 91 deaths and 31-thousand 424 total cases of corona virus. State officials confirm 83 new deaths and 633 new cases of the virus. This may indicate a plateau in the pandemic in Michigan. 32-hundred 37 people have recovered. A patient who is okay 30 days after getting the virus is considered recovered. State health reports recovered cases once a week.
A 5 year old Detroit girl has become the youngest victim. Skylar Herbert was taken off a ventilator, more than 2 weeks after suffering brain swelling from meningitis, a rare complication of the virus.
The Maple Woods Manor in Clio says 17 of it residents have died of the virus, 24 tested positive, and 26 employees are positive.
Starting today all essential workers will be eligible to be tested for COVID-19 in Detroit.
Workers include those who work at grocery stores, restaurants or banks. Testing has mostly been prioritized for first responders or nursing home workers.
Mayor Duggan said more than 2,000 essential workers have already been tested.
House Speaker Lee Chatfield is asking the governor to amend her lockdown order before it’s too late, by redefining safe and unsafe activities and take a regional approach to any future restrictions. Whitmer has given no details on re-opening.
WJR has  reported that there are more deaths than officially counted. Now the state says it will attempt to track probable COVID-19 deaths and cases starting this week, using information from local health departments, a state surveillance system, and vital records. Police and fire departments see a much higher than normal Dead On Arrival calls at people’s homes.
