Mich CV Cases Skyrocket; Policeman Dies Of COVID

COVID-19 cases are on the rise in all eight regions of the state.

Michigan set another record yesterday, reporting 5,710 new cases of the virus and 51 more deaths. Doctor Joneigh Khaldun of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services says the current rate of increase makes it possible that we could soon be reporting 100 new deaths a day.

Governor Whitmer says she thinks many people are ignoring safety precautions because they are tired of wearing a mask. But she said we are all tired of wearing a mask, yet ignoring the problem is only going to make it worse. Whitmer also called on Republican lawmakers to approve a statewide mask requirement.  There is a mask requirement in place from the state health department, but she said the policy is critical and deserves the legislature’s stamp of approval.

A longtime Dewitt Township police officer who had tested positive for the corona virus in late October has died. Township officials confirmed that Sgt. Bill Darnell passed away on Wednesday. Darnell had tested positive just before the police department had to shut down because several other officers had also tested positive. None of the other cases proved fatal.
