DEARBORN, Oct. 13, 2023 ~ An arrest made Thursday evening is the latest example of tensions rising in Arab American and Jewish communities in metro Detroit.

A Farmington Hills resident was arrested by Dearborn police for posting a “credible threat” on social media against Palestinian-Americans in Dearborn. This comes as security around Arab and Jewish schools and houses of worship has risen this week following the start of the war in Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas, according to the Detroit Free Press.

So far, about 1,300 Israelis have been killed, with about 100 more civilians and children being held hostage by Hamas. In the Palestinian territory of Gaza, 1,799 Palestinians have been killed following air strikes from Israel. Rumors of an Israeli ground invasion of Gaza are flying as Israel orders 1.1 million people to move out of the northern part of the territory.
