DETROIT, Oct. 18, 2023 ~ U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib (MI-12) called out President Joe Biden on social media ahead of his Wednesday visit to Israel, criticizing his handling of the Israel-Hamas war following a deadly explosion at a Gaza hospital that killed nearly 500 people.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, she echoed allegations from Palestinian officials that the explosion was caused by Israeli airstrikes and told the president, “This is what happens when you refuse to facilitate a ceasefire and help de-escalate.” Israeli military officials denied fault for the explosion and accused failed rocket launches from Palestinian militants of causing the explosion.

Oct. 18, 2023 ~ Rabbi Asher Lopatin, executive director of the Jewish Community Relations Council and American Jewish Committee, talks to Guy Gordon, Lloyd Jackson, and Jamie Edmond about President Joe Biden landing in Israel, and the explosion at a hospital in Gaza.

(CONTINUED) During his visit, Biden told Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the hospital bombing “Appears as though it was done by the other team,” with the current U.S. government assessment that Israel was not responsible for the airstrikes.

This comes as Tlaib and about a dozen other progressive House Democrats are pushing for a de-escalation and ceasefire bill to curb the growing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and reduce the killing of civilians on both sides of the war. As of Wednesday morning, about 3,500 people have been killed in Palestine and 1,400 people have been killed in Israel.
