WARREN, Oct. 18, 2023 ~ Warren Mayor Jim Fouts may be facing financial penalties of up to $20,000 over “sufficient evidence” that he violated Michigan‘s Campaign Finance Act, according to the Secretary of State office.

The agency recently sent a letter to Fouts regarding his State of the City speech on June 22, on the TV Warren public television channel, where he endorsed candidates for various city offices ahead of an election. The campaign finance law prohibits a public body or official from using personnel, equipment, and public resources to help a political candidate, though Fouts’ legal team denies any wrongdoing.

He has 90 days to informally resolve the complaint filed by a Warren city council member before it is referred to the state Attorney General‘s office for potential prosecution.
