All Michigan GOP Senators Sign Resolution Pressuring Rashida Tlaib to Resign Over Israel Comments

LANSING, Nov. 10, 2023 ~ All 18 Michigan Senate Republicans signed onto a resolution Wednesday that calls for Democrat Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (MI-12) to resign over her comments on the Israel-Hamas war, one day after the U.S. House voted to censure her for the same comments.

The resolution was led by Senate Minority Leader Aric Nesbitt (R-Porter Township) against Tlaib, the only Palestinian woman in Congress, over her defense of the controversial, pro-Palestinian phrase “from the river to the sea,” and for “promoting false narratives” in regards to the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks on Israel. The resolution added that “her statements have caused great pain for untold numbers of Michiganders.

(CONTINUED) Tlaib has denounced attacks on civilians by Hamas since Oct. 7, and previously said “I grieve the Palestinian and Israeli lives lost yesterday, today, and every day. I am determined as ever to fight for a just future where everyone can live in peace,” while calling for an end to Israel’s “apartheid system.” She also defended the “river to the sea” phrase, saying it is “an aspirational call for freedom, human rights, and peaceful coexistence” and rejected the widely-held interpretation that it is a call for the violent removal of Jews in Israel.

As of Friday, the death toll in Gaza passed 11,000.
