NORTHVILLE Township, MI, Feb. 1, 2024 ~ The state of Michigan has awarded staff and patients of a now-defunct state-run children’s psychiatric hospital $13 million after being traumatized from an unannounced active shooter drill.
The Hawthorn Center conducted the drill on Dec. 21, 2022, but did not inform the staff ahead of time, leaving them to believe a real shooter was roaming the hospital grounds, according to ClickOnDetroit.com. The settlement will go toward the treatment of those traumatized by the event.
