MICHIGAN, April 17, 2024 ~ Michigan Democrats regained control of the State House Tuesday evening after the party’s candidates won special elections to fill two vacant house seats.
The vacant seats, which were in metro Detroit, were won by Mai Xiong (D-Macomb County) in the 13th District and Peter Herzberg (D-Westland) in the 25th District. The State House became evenly split between Republicans and Democrats in the fall after two of the latter party’s representatives left after winning mayoral races.
