ANN ARBOR, May 21, 2024 ~ University of Michigan police dressed in riot gear pepper-spraid students, raided, and cleared a pro-Palestinian encampment Tuesday morning, arresting four student protestors.

In a statement sent out to the community, University President Santa Ono cited recent escalations from student protestors protesting at the private homes of university regents and safety concerns as reasons why the camp was broken up. The student protestors operated peacefully for a month on the University Diag to call on university regents to divest from companies that support Israel amid its military onslaught on the Gaza Strip, which has killed over 35,000 Palestinians.
