Toyota Introduces Plans for New Compact Motor That Will Run on “Green Fuels”

May 29, 2024 ~ Toyota has introduced plans for a new compact motor that will run on “green fuels” like hydrogen and bioethanol, which will be used alongside electric motors in hybrids.

Koji Sato, chief executive of Toyota Motor Corp, says this is an “engine reborn“. This comes as many auto companies are pushing for fully electric vehicles, with Sato saying the “engine is optimized for the electrification era” with hopes of helping push the world into “carbon neutrality.”

(CONTINUED)Toyota has a successful hybrid car, the Prius, with a gas engine and electric motor. Toyota says in future hybrids, the electric motor will become the main driving power, and the new engine will be designed to take a lesser role and help it along. Details on the engine were not given by Toyota.
