Transgender woman killed

Detroit Police say a transgender woman was found murdered on the city’s west side Saturday morning. Amber Monroe, 20, was found shot and killed near 6 Mile and Woodward. The Palmer Park area, where she was killed, is a known area in Detroit where transgender people go. Last August, Detroit police were investigating three alleged hate crimes, including a murder, against transgender people in the exact same area. The group Equity Michigan says they don’t know whether transphobia was behind the killing.  Police say Monroe was seen in a car at about 5 am Saturday and was a Wayne State University student.
