OAKLAND COUNTY, MI, June 12, 2024 ~ The Michigan State Board of Education is asking the state legislature to order a comprehensive, independent review of the 2021 Oxford High School shooting.
The board voted 7-1 to urge the legislature to fund the review of the shootintg that took the lives of 17-year-old Madiyson Baldwin, 16-year-old Tate Myer, 17-year-old Justin Schilling, and 14-year-old Hanna St. Juliana. The board also is asking the legislature to mandate full and funded investigations by a team of state agencies whenever a Michigan student has died as a result of a safety-related event and make previously approved funding for children’s mental health and school safety recurring. The 2024 state budget provided 456 million for children’s mental health and school safety.
