Faith Leaders Gather to Call On Wayne State to Divest from Israel

DETROIT, July 16, 2024 ~ About 25 religious leaders gathered Monday at the Wayne State University seal to condemn the school’s treatment of student protestors and call on WSU to divest funds from Israel.

Buddhist, Christian, Jewish, and Muslim leaders attended a press conference, according to the Detroit Metro Times, slamming the violent breakup of a pro-Palestinian encampment by campus police on May 30. The encampment was also calling for a divestment from Israel amid its destruction of Gaza, with a letter published in the medical journal The Lancet estimating that the death toll could be as high as 186,000.
